Once established, I thought I’d “arrived” at a point in my life where I would coast through life. But, life had an interesting way of showing me I needed to move forward.
Whether I wanted to or not, I was changing and what had gotten me to that point wasn’t going to get me to where I needed to go next.
Each one of those times the path to a solution was very clear, albeit frightening.
As a young immigrant I had to learn and acclimate to a new culture, learn English while finishing high school, go to college, and later raise a baby in my early twenties.
– ALAINA
I thought that being available to everyone, responding to every request was the right way to live life, and made me a good person.
But, when others didn’t do the same I’d feel resentful.
I didn’t have names for my struggles at the time, I just knew that for years it felt as though I was fighting against myself.
I was older, wiser and having a great life, yet I couldn’t make that feeling disappear.
On the contrary, I started experiencing anxiety and stress.
My first breakthrough happened when I learned that people and circumstances cannot make anyone feel anything.
The second, most important, lesson I learned was to question everything. I didn’t have to do things the way they had always been done. I had the power to decide for myself how I wanted to show up in the world.
Through my daily practice I’ve become empowered. I’ve taken the reins of my life back. My work has transformed me into an unbothered, yet soft woman; and helping women, by sharing what I’ve learned, has become my passion.
